If a call, message or job offer feels wrong, check before you act. Call **1799** — the ScamShield Helpline, run by the Singapore Police Force. It is open 24 hours a day and costs nothing. From outside Singapore, call +65 6869 1799. The helpline can also connect you directly to seven banks if you have already been scammed, which matters because the first hour is when money can still be stopped. Two things it cannot do: it cannot make a police report for you, and it cannot give updates on a frozen bank account. To report a crime, file online at the police e-services portal. Call before you pay, not after. No real government officer, bank or employer will ask you to move money to a "safe account", pay a fee to keep your job, or read out a one-time password.
